Understanding membership subscription statuses

Every membership subscription has a status. These statuses are grouped below by the workflow they relate to: managing new signups or managing existing members.

1. New/Incoming Subscriptions

These statuses apply to contacts who are in the process of joining.

  • Incomplete: The contact started the subscription process but abandoned it before completion. You may want to follow up with these contacts to check if they have questions or need assistance.
  • Pending: The contact has applied for a plan that requires administrator approval, and this approval has not yet been granted.
  • Approved: An administrator has approved the subscription, but the first payment is still outstanding.

2. Existing Member Subscriptions

These statuses apply to active, lapsing, or cancelled members.

  • Valid: The subscription is active, all payments are up-to-date, and the membership is valid until the renewal date.

    Overdue: An invoice has been issued for renewal, but payment has not been received. The account is still within its payment grace period.

    • Note: The member retains access to member-only resources in this status.
  • Expired: The payment grace period has passed with no payment received. The subscription is no longer active.
  • Cancelled: An administrator has manually ended the subscription (e.g., at the member's request).
