Creating site navigation with overview pages and the Sub-menu block
Instead of traditional dropdown menus, we recommend using "overview pages" to guide your visitors. This creates a clearer website structure and a better experience.
The Sub-menu block is a special content block designed to create these overview pages for you automatically.
What is the Sub-menu block?
The Sub-menu block automatically finds all the sub-pages (or "child" pages) of the page it's on and displays them in a clean, tiled layout.
It automatically pulls in each sub-page's:
- Title
- Introduction text
- Featured image
The image below shows a good example of a "Participate" overview page using this block to display its sub-sections.

The benefits
- Always up-to-date: If you add, remove, or re-order sub-pages in Website > Menus, this block updates automatically. You don't need to manually edit the overview page.
- Clear user journey: It provides a clear, visual landing page for each section of your site, introducing the content before users click deeper.
- No extra work: Just add the block, and it builds the page content for you.
How to set up an overview page
- Build your page structure: Go to Website > Menus. Create your top-level "overview" page (e.g., "About Us").
- Create your sub-pages: Create the pages that will go inside that section (e.g., "Our Team", "Our History").
- Nest your pages: In the Menus tool, drag the sub-pages so they are nested underneath their main overview page. This tells the system they are "child" pages.
- Edit the overview page: Navigate to your top-level page (e.g., "About Us").
- Add the block: Add a new content block to the page and select Sub-menu from the list.
- Save and check: Save your changes. The block will now automatically display your nested sub-pages.
